About The Oarfish

Meet the Oarfish! This long fish has a bad reputation of being a "harbinger of doom" when washed upon shore before a storm, but how can they bring about doom when the look this cute? They live at depths of up to 3,000 feet and have been measured up to 36 feet long

This oarfish plush is 3 feet long and features a ruffled ribbon fin down it's back, and a hand drawn pattern with fabric ink on it's sides. It’s pectoral fins hang from the front of the fish with an elastic string and fabric details.

The reason for it’s reputation as a “doomsday fish” is because of it’s habit to wash up on Japan shores before an earthquake or tsunami. Scientists have deemed this as an “illusory correlation” but that didn’t stop it from being nicknamed as the“Ryugu-No-Tsuka”, or “Messenger from the Sea God’s Palace
